If you want straighter teeth but do not like the way braces look, you still have options. One of those options is Invisalign. Invisalign uses clear aligners to gently but quickly move teeth into place. These aligners are made just for you based on digital scans of your mouth, allowing them to perfectly fit against your teeth.  They are nearly invisible to those around you and since you can remove them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, they are also incredibly convenient.  Dr. Young and the team provide Invisalign treatment for almost any type of smile or bite issue.  Feel free to ask if Invisalign treatment is right for you today!

High-Tech Metal and Ceramic Braces

Metal braces are the most common type of braces used. Over the years, they have become more comfortable, more effective, and less visible. We use braces made from high-grade stainless steel and give you the option to use special brackets and colored elastics to express your personality.

Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but they are tooth colored making them less visible. However, they are stronger than metal and can wear your teeth easily when biting on them, so we only use them on the top teeth (the teeth other people will see).

Early Treatment

Occasionally, jaw discrepancies or teeth out of alignment need correction at a young age.  These issues are often best addressed before we have done most of our growing and can have a big influence on the final position of our jaws and facial structures.  Dr. Young provides many different treatment options when necessary for younger patients that may require correction before all of the adult teeth have erupted. If you feel your child is developing bite problems at an early age, having early orthodontic treatment can prevent future smile and bite issues.

Digital Impressions

Messy, goopy, uncomfortable impressions are quickly becoming a thing of the past thanks to the iTero scanner. This tool creates 3D digital scans that can be used to plan treatment, order appliances, and check the progress of your treatment. Here is what you should know about the iTero scanner.
  • It is an intra-oral scanner that captures thousands of small images of the dental anatomy, including the mouth, teeth, and gums.
  • From start to finish, the process takes about 10 minutes.
  • Once done, the 3D model can be used to diagnose oral health issues and plan treatment.

The day you get your braces off, you will want to celebrate – and you should! But it is not the end of treatment. Retainers are almost always required to ensure all of your hard work acquiring your new smile lasts a lifetime.

After the active portion of treatment is over, you move into the retention phase. This phase is designed to keep the teeth held in their ideal positions while they firm up in place—in other words, while the gums and bone get used to their new positions. For about three months after treatment, retainers will be worn pretty much full time. After that, they will be worn during nights only.

There are several types of retainers that can be used. However, not all are suited to every patient. We are happy to provide most types of retainers and can fabricate them the same day as requested in most cases. Dr. Young is happy to discuss the different options available for keeping your teeth straight, and recommend those which fit your bite best.

Surgical Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment along with surgery to correct the positions of the jaws may be necessary in some cases.  Often referred to as “Orthognathic Surgery”, this type of treatment is for very large discrepancies between the growth of the jaws that can benefit from permanent changes in the facial structures.  Depending on the severity of your bite issues, Dr. Young may recommend options to help correct the underlying jaw issues involving a surgical procedure.  This is often only recommended when braces or Invisalign alone will not be enough to give you the perfect smile.
